Every January for almost 20 years (barring hurricane problems) the Broward Folk Club has had a major event. For many years, it has been the South Florida Folk Festival (SFFF) with as many as 5 stages going at a time along with a dance floor, workshops, jam tents, and on and on.
Due to many factors ranging from weather to cost (the costs of the park facilities and permits have gone up in this area as much as 500%), the county no longer wants to participate in the events and we all know what has happened with grants!
For the last two years we have had inside 1 day events at the 'Round-Up' in Davie; presenting singer/songwriters, many of whom have not been to South Florida before.
This year we decided to do something different. We wanted to bring back as much of the tradition and 'essence' of the old SFFF to South Florida. In order to do that, we have brought back singer/songwriters who have either been headliners or singer/songwriter winners from 1999 forward. It will be a very exciting event as many of these artists have played with each other; so while, each has their own set, I'm sure most sets will include two or more musicians for a day of beautiful music and musicianship from a group of headliners....as each artist is a headliner!
